
1. The Manuscript category is open to all unpublished works from both new writers and previously published authors. Manuscripts must be original, in English, unpublished in any format and/or unproduced, and not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission. Emerging Writer Awards, Triom Publishing and Emerging Writer Magazine each retain one-time serial rights to all accepted entries; serial rights are rights to print excerpts of a book before publication.
2. The Short Subject category is open to all unpublished works from both new writers and previously published authors. Works must be original, in English, unpublished in any format and/or unproduced, and not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission. Emerging Writer Awards, Triom Publishing and Emerging Writer Magazine each retain one-time publication rights to all accepted entries.
   2.1. The two methods of submission are: regular mail (UPS, FedEx or Postal Service) or online at the contest website. No fax submissions will be accepted.
   2.2. All mailed submissions must be accompanied by an Official Entry Form. The form is available in both .doc and .pdf formats at www.emergingwriterawards.org.
3. You may enter more than one work and/or more than one category; however, if you mail your entry, you must submit one copy of your work per category and must include an entry form and the additional fee for each entry (credit card information, check or money order made payable to TRIOM Publishing.
4. Online entrants will be asked to supply all necessary entry information at the contest website, as well as any required payment information for the submission.
   4.1. Online entries must be submitted in either Word (.doc) or PDF format. Your name, address, phone number, competition category and word count must appear in the upper left-hand corner of the first page — otherwise your entry will be disqualified.
   4.2. Emerging Writer Awards assumes no responsibility for any errors or omissions on either the Entry Form or credit card information for online submissions which result in disqualification. For those concerned with security, you may phone in your card information.
5. If you are submitting your entry via mail, the entry must be typed on one side of 8-1/2 x 11 or A4 white paper. Except for manuscripts, mailed entries must be stapled. All entries must be double-spaced and use standard literary submission format.
6. Word counts per entry, for various categories, are as follows: First Person and Essays – 2,000 words, all short fiction – 4,000 words, One-Act plays – The first 15 pages and a one page synopsis, poetry – 3 poems allowed per entry, 40 lines per poem. Manuscripts should not exceed approximately 100,000 words.
7. BE SURE OF YOUR WORD COUNT! Except for manuscripts, entries exceeding the word or page limits will be disqualified. Type the exact word count (counting every single word, except the title and contact information) at the top of the submission below your name and address.
8. For a submission to be considered an official entry it must be accompanied by: a check, money order, credit card payment or on-line payment receipt.
9. All entries must be postmarked no later than August 31. All winners will be notified no later than November 30. No entries will be returned.
10. For your protection, if you wish to receive confirmation that your entry was received before the deadline, we recommend using certified mail or some other tracking method to send your entry. Confirmations will also be sent to all entrants who provide an email address.

1. All entries will be read and reviewed by the judges. Due to the volume of entries individual critics will not be possible. Entries will not be returned.
2. Judging will be based on: editorial excellence, originality and the value the work adds to its genre. Judges reserve the right to withhold an award in any category should submissions not meet an acceptable standard.
3. The judges and Emerging Writer Awards reserve the right to reassign works to different categories as it deems appropriate.
4. Emerging Writer Awards is not responsible for the loss, damage or return of any books, manuscripts or essays submitted to the competition.
5. Employees of Triom Publishing, Emerging Writer Awards or Emerging Writer Magazine and their immediate families are ineligible to enter the competition.
6. While Triom Publishing and Emerging Writer Magazine reserve the right to a one time publication of any work submitted, they are under no obligation to do so.

1. We comply with the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) Code of Ethics. CLMP’s community of independent literary publishers believe that ethical contests serve our shared goal: connecting writers and readers through the publishing of exceptional writing. The foundation of an ethical contest is based upon: the Intent to act ethically, clear and specific contest guidelines, and the transparency of process.
2. Toward that end, we agree:
2.1. to conduct our contest as ethically as possible and to address any potentially unethical behavior on the part of our readers, judges, or editors;
2.2. to provide clear and specific contest guidelines as well as defining conflicts of interest for all parties involved;
2.3. and, upon request, to make the mechanics of our selection process available to the public.
3. This Code recognizes that different contests use different models, designed to produce different results, but that each model can be run ethically. We have adopted this Code as a statement of our integrity and dedication as a publishing community and to ensure that our contests contribute to the nation’s vibrant literary heritage.

1. Each category will have a first place winner. In addition, the top five selectees in each category will be named Finalists. First place winners will move forward to the next round of judging, for consideration for the Grand Prize in their respective categories (Unpublished Manuscript and Short Subject). In addition the winners and finalists will receive certificates honoring their accomplishment.
2. All winners and finalists will receive national recognition and promotion on the web sites of Emerging Writer Awards, Emerging Writer Magazine and Triom Publishing.
3. Two Grand Prize winners will then be selected; One from the Manuscript competition and one from the Short Subject competition.
4. The Grand Prize winner in the Unpublished Manuscript competition will receive $2,000 and may be offered the opportunity to have their book published by Triom Publishing.
5. The Grand Prize winner in the short subject competition will receive $1,000.
